Free Tasting with Caroline Diel of Schlossgut Diel
Description
Joining us for a free tasting on a Monday (!!!) night, Caroline Diel is a woman winemaker visiting us here in the states from Schlossgut Diel in Nahe, Germany!
Caroline is the seventh generation winemaker in her family at the estate, and the first woman! The estate was originally purchased in 1802 as a mixed agricultural farm. After two hundred years, the winery is proud to grow the grapes for their wine that they believe to be 'quintessentially Nahe": Pinot Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Noir.
Caroline has studied winemaking at some of the biggest names in French wine: Ruinart, the oldest house in Champagne, and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in Burgundy. She also did brief stints in Austria and even New Zealand.
After meeting her husband, they teamed up to take on the winery together. Her husband, Sylvain, handles the sales and marketing side of the business while Caroline takes lead in the vineyard and in the cellar. Today, they still run the operation and raise their three children and make sure they are also engrained into the culture Caroline had the pleasure of growing up in.
Come for the free tasting, stay for a glass and charcuterie!
