Unfortunately, due to our past snow-pocalypse, we had to post-pone our tasting with Sarah from Lioco Winery. However! Good news is that we still want to give y’all an opportunity to try these outstanding wines from the West Coast, and our awesome rep Robin Bodwin will be on hand next week to take you through the lineup and share her stories from her time spent out in California at the winery!

Lioco, a winery out of Santa Rosa California, was the brainchild of two longtime wine industry friends who were frustrated with the heavy-handed style of California wines that were so prevalent throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s. In 2005, Kevin O’Connor and Matt Licklider decided that they wanted to create wines based on ‘Old World’ stylings using California’s own unique terroir to showcase the nuances of the area’s grapes in a more elegant and refined way than was the trend at the time.

Made with minimal intervention and with balance at their core, many of their wines are comparable to their Old World counterparts in Burgundy and the Rhone Valley of France. Currently, Licklider and his wife, Sarah, purchase grapes from local growers in an area spanning famed California.

While Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Carignan are among those varietals that Lioco bottles each year, they are always searching for other grapes in the area to create unique and intriguing wines that speak of place and represent all that California truly has to offer.

2016 Lioco Sonoma County Chardonnay, Sonoma, California ($24.99)
2015 Lioco ‘Estero’ Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, California ($39.99)
2015 Lioco ‘Laguna’ Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, California ($44.99)
2015 Lioco ‘Sativa’ Carignan, Mendocino County, California ($34.99)
