Free Tasting with Sarah Harshaw
Wednesday, January 17th, 5-7 pm

Join us as we welcome special guest Sarah Harshaw from Lioco behind the bar pouring some of her favorites from the California winery. We’ve long been fans of these wines by winemaker John Raytek, and proudly carry them on the shelf as one of the pioneers for an ‘Old World’ winemaking philosophy and style that’s breaking the mold on the West Coast.

Lioco, a winery out of Santa Rosa California, was the brainchild of two longtime wine industry friends who were frustrated with the heavy-handed style of California wines that were so prevalent throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s. In 2005, Kevin O’Connor and Matt Licklider decided that they wanted to create wines based on ‘Old World’ stylings using California’s own unique terroir to showcase the nuances of the area’s grapes in a more elegant and refined way than was the trend at the time.

Made with minimal intervention and with balance at their core, many of their wines are comparable to their Old World counterparts in Burgundy and the Rhone Valley of France. Currently, Licklider and his wife, Sarah, purchase grapes from local growers in an area spanning famed California.

sarah liocoWhile Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Carignan are among those varietals that Lioco bottles each year, they are always searching for other grapes in the area to create unique and intriguing wines that speak of place and represent all that California truly has to offer.

Come meet Sarah Harshaw, learn from her first hand about the winery, and taste what a hands-off and delicate approach to winemaking can do to experience the terroir of California that is oft missed.
